Memory & Company is Canada’s first Alzheimer’s health club, and newest true alternative in dementia care. Think of it as adult day program, spa, and private social club, all in one.
The beautiful 11,000 square foot, fully accessible health club is located in Markham Ontario, at Highway 404 and Highway 7. The carefully designed interior is a seamless blend of dementia design principles and upscale, home-like décor.
Memory & Company specializing in the health and happiness of people with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, and their Caregivers.
For their Members, they provide personal care, dining, bathing, and personalized activities anywhere from yoga to gardening, relaxation to cooking, and arts and entertainment to activities of daily living to name a few. To ensure each Member’s needs are met at all times, there is a minimum 5:1 staff ratio.
In addition, at Memory & Company, services come to their Members, not the other way around. Outside services, such as hair care, mani/pedi, denturist, foot care, physiotherapist to name a few, will be brought in to the health club. This saves Caregivers from having to make multiple appointments, drive, and sit in waiting rooms.
For the Caregivers, they provide Caregiver support, respite, and the ability to find balance in the own lives in order to successfully manage the demands of Caregiving. This may mean returning to work, returning to a hobby, reacquainting with friends, or simply catching a much needed break.
Memory & Company was created by a husband-and-wife team that saw more and more people wanting to remain at home with their families longer. They also saw people settling for the first available Long-Term Care home with little option available to wait for a home of their choice. People were being institutionalized prematurely. Ashley and Victor Kwong’s intention was to create a place people would be proud to have their loved one spend the day at, in a place anyone would enjoy, and to be the safe, guilt-free, stress-easing solution so many had been waiting for.
Memory & Company is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Memberships are available from just one day-a-week, up to six days-a-week.
