A recent Ontario-based survey of 800 caregivers (aged 16 and older) found that while caregivers overall appreciated the time spent with their loved ones 61% admitted they felt trapped, helpless, frustrated and overwhelmed. The survey highlights how many caregivers are people often thrown unexpectedly into a role for which they are typically not trained and which can have major effects on physical and mental health, relationships and career paths.

The stories found within the article along with the survey results, show that the health-care system must do more to support caregivers and make it easier for them to access existing services.
