This comprehensive kit was designed to help you through the process of funeral preplanning, choosing an executor, and preparing the information about your estate for your executor. It’s what I call “Leaving a Loving Legacy” for your family and friends. But perhaps you’ll recognize it as a way of answering the question that people know they need to deal with but they avoid as long as possible…you know the one…

“Are your affairs in order?”

Both the workbook and the filing system have 12 sections. The first section of the workbook talks about the role of the executor and things you need to consider when choosing an executor. Sections 2 to 12 are about what information you need to collect for your executor and why they’ll need it. I’ve provided tips and forms to help you collect that information. There’s also a CD in the back of the workbook if you prefer to complete the forms online.

You can complete the workbook on your own, with someone, or you can attend one of my “Get ‘R Done” workshops. The goal is simple…collect your information and file it in the matching section in the filing system. It’s the filing system that your Executor will need to use to look after your estate. There’s no perfect sequence as to how you collect the information, just remember to celebrate your success when you’ve completed each topic or section. One more very important thing, you’ll have to keep the information up to date. You might consider a quarterly or monthly check to see if anything has changed.

I want to thank you again for having the courage to “put your affairs in order”. Clients tell me they feel an immense sense of relief when this task is complete. They are able to go on with their life knowing that they’ve helped their loved ones cope with a difficult time in the days, weeks, and months after their death. I understand how difficult that time can be. For each Legacy Matters product, program, or service purchased, 10% will be donated to the Legacy Matters Wish Foundation for distribution to organizations such as Bereaved Families of Ontario.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips for improving the workbook so that your ideas can help others. And well, there’s no time like the present to get started…so, let’s Get ‘R Done!

About Kat Downey

Legacy Matters

Hi, my name is Kat Downey and I’ve been a licensed Funeral Director in Ontario since 1998, specializing in funeral preplanning. Prior to that, I was a high school teacher and then a professor at a Community College. As a Funeral Director and licensed Insurance Advisor, I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of helping thousands of people through arduous times. I’ve seen many heartbreaking situations that could have been avoided if the person’s “affairs” were in order, or as I like to say, “if they had their stuff organized”. So I decided the best way to help people through the process was to teach them what to do. I’m a firm believer that education ignites action so I’ve designed a kit that contains a workbook for you to know what to collect and a filing system for you to file it in.
