What duties will a personal support worker help with during the few hours that they are in the home?
First and foremost, personal support workers (PSWs) are most likely there to assist with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing and toileting. They can also assist with meal preparation and light housekeeping. Depending on how long they are in the home, and what else is required, they may also do some laundry. It is best to have an assessment done prior to care beginning so that the PSW, client and family all know what to expect of the PSW’s time in the home. Together, you and your mom/dad should work with the agency providing the PSW to develop a plan of care.
