Lately, my mother is having trouble coping with everyday things, like her housekeeping and grooming. She also seems overwhelmed. How can I help her?
It is often difficult to watch a loved one struggle with activities of daily living such as housekeeping and grooming. There are many small things you can do for your mother to help her cope with day to day tasks, from adding lighting and removing scatter rugs to prevent falls, buying clocks and telephones with large numbers and making reminder lists and lists of important phone numbers.
If your mother requires assistance, see if you can enlist the help of an Occupational Therapist to do an assessment or ask about home care assistance, which is covered under the government home care program. Your family doctor can help refer you to appropriate resources.
