Is live-in or live-out care better for someone living on their own and what are the cost differences?
When making the decision consider these factors:
- How much assistance is needed?
- How frail are they?
- Are they able to prepare their own meals and do laundry?
If the person doesn’t require assistance during the night, having a live-in may be too much. On the other hand, having someone in the home at night can give the individual great peace of mind. A few hours a day to make sure that the meals are prepared, that the housekeeping is being done and that the individual is safe calls for live-out care. The cost difference is substantial if you are looking at care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Live-outs cost more. With live-in, you must provide room and board, as well as days off.
