New study explains why more women get dementia.

Did you know that two-thirds of the 6.5 million Americans currently living with dementia are women?  This is according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Other countries report similar numbers worldwide.

 

The senior study coauthor Lindsay Farrer, chief of biomedical genetics at Boston University School of Medicine says:   “It’s a female-specific finding — perhaps one of the strongest associations of a genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s in women.”
