Mom became very attached to her caregiver, who recently resigned. Now she’s despondent and won’t acknowledge the new person. What can I do?

It must be very difficult to get to know someone, become attached and then have that person leave. Did your mother have an opportunity to say goodbye to her previous worker? She may not feel that she has had any closure. She may also be feeling rejected by the caregiver who resigned and may not want to build a relationship with anyone else to avoid any future rejection. Another possibility is that the new person is just not a good fit for your mom. If you and your mom feel this is the case, contact the agency that is sending the current caregiver and ask if anyone else is available.
