As we look to 2020, here are some wise suggestions for family caregivers.

I WILL:

  1. Take care of my own health & my spirit.
  2. Stay connected with my friends & family.
  3. Exercise as often as I can.
  4. Enjoy the good times.
  5. Be honest & truthful with my family.
  6. Limit my exposure and contact with negative, critical people.
  7. Know my boundaries.
  8. Be proud. My work and efforts matter.
  9. Escape when I can.
  10. Know what I can change and what I cannot change.

 

I WON’T:

  1. Expect my family to pitch in and help.
  2. Make my care recipient feel guilty.
  3. Stop being an advocate.
  4. Stop doing what I love.
  5. Over Indulge.
  6. Expect that family members equally share responsibilities.
  7. Be mad about my life today.
  8. Abuse my loved one.
  9. Expect people to read my mind.
  10. Forget the paperwork.
