Join us as we host a 2 day event to celebrate the diversities in family caregiving. Using a “peer support model” afternoon workshops will be conducted for family caregivers, their families and others who are interested in learning and sharing life experiences by exploring and celebrating the cultural similarities and diversities of family caregiving.
Family caregivng of our elders is usually done in an isolated, often lonely world that is driven by culture, language and traditions. Because we often live separately, socialize separately, and interact separately there is limited opportunity to learn about caregiving in other cultures. There is much that can and should be shared and learned about the care of elders by different cultures. Mary Bart, Chair of “Losing Our Parents” says, “Our goal is to offer a forum for people of many cultures to come together to celebrate, talk and learn about family caregiving from others. Our events will be a bridge to increased understanding, respect and appreciation of how cultures manage their family caregiving traditions and issues.”
Registration begins at noon. At 12:30 our workshops begin. Included in the afternoons will be 3 presentations:
- “Caregiving in a new country and how to cope” by Soraiya Walji
- “Care for the caregiver” by Nurse Jackie Hickey
- “Care of the very ill” by Dr. Roohullah Shabon
We will then have a fun filled coffee break that will be followed by caregivers sharing their stories, networking, celebrating and learning together.

Special offer – Saturday March 3 event
We hope that you find this workshop of value. We also believe that you may want to do your own family caregiver program, sometime in the future. To help you do this, we have a special offer that may be of interest to you.
If you bring 20 caregivers to our workshop, we will give you $200.00 in support of your own family caregivers. For example, you may want to have a “Caregiver Café” or develop your own support program. It really is up to you. Our goal is to have people attend our free, educational and fun workshop and then allow groups to continue helping family caregivers with our donations. Funds are limited. There are funds to support only 3 organizations with this program.
RSVP for both locations

Family caregivers, their families, the general public and the press are welcomed to attend. Both events have wheelchair access. The events are offered at no charge. Prizes, snacks and refreshments will be offered. We wish to thank and acknowledge the financial support of the Inter-Action, the Multiculturalism Grants and Contributions Program of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, in the delivery of this event.
